BONU NADALE e BONANNU

"Cari Amici / Dear Friends"

2016 has been a fabulous year for the SCA with many things achieved and planned, thanks to the commitment of your Committee and the support our Members and Supporters.

All this will be provided in detail when we see each other at the 19/2/17 AGM.

However, by way of a summary, whilst 2016 sadly saw the passing of the much loved Mary Ortu and Giuseppe Fancellu, particular highlights were the inauguration of the rebuilt kindergarten wall in Onanì/Sardegna made possible by "Cyclone Cleopatra Appeal" organised by the SCA.  Hosting ofrenown musiciansPaolo Angelo - Jazz &  Silvia Careddu - Classical Flutist, Battista Saiu - President & - Raffaele Zanella- Chef & Member of the Sardinian Association in Biella/Italy.

We also developed a new website to bring a new fresh look, which is continually improving to provide a bridge between Melbournians and Sardinians, a new Facebook group was introduced to bring together Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, so we could better share activities. This group, Sardinians in Australia now has over300 members.

Finally we relaunched our book "Ajo In Australia - Let's Go To Australia" which documented the Academic Research into Sardinian Immigration. We are planning to set up a bilateral Australia/Sardinia student exchange student program with a local secondary school and publish a "casalinga" styleSardinian recipe and tourism book.

However, most enjoyable of all have been the various convivial get together enjoying fine food, chat and lighter in the best of Sardinian/Australian tradition with you the heart of the SCA.

We acknowledge the continued excellent support received from Stefano Rassu - "Pomodoro Sardo", Paul Jon. Lostia - "Paul's Butchery", Ignazio Deiana - "12 Bottles" and John Portelli & Marco Di Santo - "Enoteca Sileno", for which we are very grateful, this long standing support has enabled these activities to continue.

We have seen a slight increase in members and supporters, as well as new welcomed faces in the Committee, that is Mariangela Prib, Giovanni Chighine and Marino La Nasa as well as Jennifer Curcio-Ryder and Athena Thomson who proactively contribute to the workings of the SCA from outside the Committee.

So, we have many things to celebrate coming to into this festive season, be it personally or spiritually, and in this regard the Committee reminds you that “We've got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant. You can't just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it's going to get on by itself. You've got to keep watering it. You've got to really look after it and nurture it.

In closing we wish you and your family a Happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year, looking forward to your continued support and seeing you in 2017.
